AUM is the third album in the StarBast Chronicles, consisting of 11 compositions that immerse the listener in philosophical and spiritual reflections, as portrayed in Holger Schmidt's book. The music here is not merely an accompaniment to the narrative; it becomes a tool for exploring ideas of meditation, enlightenment, and the search for truth. Progressive rock, jazz, and blues, combined with modern arrangements, create a rich sonic landscape, drawing the listener into deep reflections on life and spirituality.
The album, like the book, revolves around the idea of the spiritual journey of a rock musician who has sought to change the world for the better since his youth. In these reflections, the imagery of Nasimi's meditative labyrinth and the poets of the French Resistance intertwine, symbolizing the themes of struggle and the self-destruction of civilization.
The attempt to delve into Eastern philosophy gives the album a unique depth. The narrative in "AUM" echoes the structure of Hermann Hesse's "Siddhartha" and can be seen as a multi-layered palette, where one might also find parallels with the mythological journey of the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece. The album can also be viewed as a dialogue between two old friends, sharing their thoughts on the paths they have walked and the philosophical questions they have pondered.
Like all albums in the StarBast Chronicles, AUM should be experienced as a cohesive whole, where each composition is part of a larger canvas. However, for a first encounter, we recommend starting with the candid "On The Verge" and the almost trip-hop "My Daughter," which serve as gateways into the album's sonic world.
AUM is not just a musical work; it is a profound auditory experience that, through its music, reveals philosophical ideas and life truths. Each composition is an essential part of the artistic vision, inviting the listener to reflect on their own spiritual journey.
